1870s

Visiting Doctors

Bulli was serviced by doctors travelling from Wollongong.

1883

First Local Practice

Dr Thomas Sturt opened a practice, likely at Wisteria Cottage on the Princes Highway at Park Road junction.

1889

Succession

Dr Thomas Sturt retired; his brother Dr Clifton Sturt took over.

1895

Founding of Bulli Medical Practice

Dr Clifton Sturt purchased the current premises and built a small practice beside his home.

1901

Transition

After Dr Clifton Sturt’s death, Dr James Thompson maintained the practice.

1903

New Era

Dr Barton Dixon took over, contributed to the development of Bulli District Hospital, and photographed Bulli and Wollongong.

1916

Change of Hands

Dr James Macpherson assumed control of the practice.

1922

Crossle’s Arrival

Irish doctor Francis Crossle purchased the practice.

1927

Norman Lindsay created a bookplate for Crossle.

1931

Published Dona Juana, considered scandalous at the time.
Donated funds for Thirroul Surf Lifesaving Club’s first surf boat.
Honoured with a Bulli Hospital ward named after him.
Awarded the Free French Forces War Services Medal during WWII.

1938

Cook Brothers

Dr Bertram “Bertie” Cook took over; later succeeded by his brother Dr “Captain” Cook.

1958

Feneley Joins

Dr William Feneley joined the practice, popular in the community, active at Bulli and Coledale Hospitals.

2000

Dr Feneley was awarded the Order of Australia for medical services and education.

2001

Dr Feneley received the ANZAC Medal for community service.

2004

Expansion

Practice outgrew original premises; neighbouring property at 74 Park Road was purchased and renovated.

2012

Modern Upgrade

Further upgrades made to the expanded Park Road practice.

2019

Dr Michael Hanson joined Dr Julie Blaze and Dr Jeffrey Hall as a Director of Bulli Medical Practice.

2023

Dr Berlinda Png and Dr John Deady joined Dr Julie Blaze and Dr Michael Hanson as Directors of Bulli Medical Practice.
